Our Products
Our product range includes black, green, organic, flavoured and herbal teas in bulk form, teabags, packets, PET bottles, metal canisters and gift packings.
Beverage Packing
Involving both our own brands as well as our customers’ brands, we blend and pack tea into consumer packs with a wide range of specifications.
We pride ourselves on our ability to source and blend teas to meet precisely the varied and demanding tastes of individual customers. Blending consistency is achieved through the rich experience of our tasters who each has an average of over 20 years in the trade.
We also design and source packaging material for a wide range of customer packs at competitive prices, and thereafter process customer orders to keep to strict delivery schedules.
Our Packaging Facility
Built in 1997, the operation is amongst the most modern in Sri Lanka. It encompasses tea warehousing, tea processing, quality assurance and marketing - all under one roof.
Our lines of IMA C21 and C23 tea bagging machines are capable of producing 1.5 million teabags per day (with or without envelopes).
The latest addition is three state-of-the-art IMA C27 tea bagging machines which produce staple-free, knot technology tea bags. Each tea bag produced by this machine is optically scanned to ensure a defect-free, safe-for-use product.
We also operate an automated tea blending machine with a capacity of ten metric tonnes per hour.
In-house we have Chinese and Japanese-type green tea machinery and we are also certified to produce organic green tea - a unique capability in Sri Lanka.
Our Customers’ Brands
We undertake packing under customers' brands (especially private label packs for large supermarket chains) from bulk to customised pack sizes, flavoured tea packs, teabags, metal canisters, gift teas, etc. The possibilities are endless and our recent acquisition of the latest tea bagging machinery means that Finlays is uniquely equipped to cater for almost any requirement.
Our Own Brands
Although creating our own brands is generally not our business, we do have two Middle Eastern brands which were established over 40 years ago:
- Alwazah Tea, also known as Swan Brand tea, is a range of specially blended Ceylon teas uniquely meeting the tastes of the Arab world. It has been, and remains, one of the most popular brands in the Arab world and is now available in 23 countries.
- Our Istikan Brand, also a high-quality blend of Ceylon teas, is extremely popular in Syria and Turkey.
Green Tea
The green tea manufacturing facility is situated at an elevation of 1000 metres above sea level in the Uva province of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1993 to cater for the needs of its customers who sought a quality Ceylon green tea to add to their existing range of quality Ceylon black tea products. This transformed Finlays in Sri Lanka into a one-stop global shop. In addition, we produce both the popular Chinese-style panned green tea, a Japanese steamed variety of green tea and an organic green tea.
Tea Warehousing
Our tea warehousing arm provides storage facilities for the produce of most of Sri Lanka’s major tea estate companies participating in the Colombo Tea Auctions. The modern tea warehouse offers a dedicated service employing the latest technology including a fully automated procedure to ensure quality of produce through minimal handling and safe storage.
The warehouse, which has already received ISO 9001:2000 and HACCP certification, is in the process of obtaining ISO 14001environmental certification as well. The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) practices of the division have ensured zero time lost.
