Our UK Beverages division has been packing tea and coffee for over 100 years, with the original company, George Payne & Sons, founded at Tower Bridge, London. Operations moved via Croydon and Swindon, progressively consolidating and modernising until reaching the current purpose-built site at South Elmsall, near Doncaster, at the heart of the UK distribution network. Today we are the largest packer of private label tea and coffee in the UK.
As a supplier of choice for leading retailers and national foodservice operators, we are focused on consistency, value and faultless service levels. With our group heritage and extensive knowledge and passion for tea and coffee, we are able to take a long-term, sustainable and mutually beneficial view of our customers’ businesses.
You would expect us to apply rigorous quality standards, which we do, but we often find that our customers also have their own requirements. Our aim is not only to meet those requirements, but to exceed them. The fact that we have enjoyed an excellent relationship with one major UK retailer for over 100 years, shows that we have been successful.
We were proud to win a gold medal from The Grocer magazine, being voted best own-label beverage supplier by the UK retail trade in 2006 and, for the last five consecutive years, Finlays’ customers have been finalists in the ‘Q Awards’ for new product excellence.
Our foundations are built upon a team of 250 long-standing and experienced local employees within a people-focused, innovative and listening-based culture. We are committed to investing in and working with our employees effectively in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our business.
Investment in manufacturing capabilities at South Elmsall has continued with the building of a major extension to the tea factory in 2002 and the acquisition of adjacent warehousing in 2006. New packing machines ensure we remain among the best equipped and versatile operators in Europe.
